QC Breast CancerSupport Group (Iowa): First Tuesday of each month, 7-9 pm downstairs Trinity at Terrace Park, 4500 Utica Ridge Road, Bettendorf. Diabetes Support Group at Genesis: First Tuesday of each month, 11:00AM to Noon, Larson Center, Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL Recommended for people with diabetes who are interested in receiving help with diabetes self-management. Cost: none. Registration: 309-792-4389

Low Vision Support Group at CASI: the first Thursday of every month at CASI, 1035 W. Kimberly Road, Davenport, IA, facilitated by Lilah Bell (Call 563-386- 7477 Ext. 231 for details or to register) Anyone with vision problems is welcome to attend.
The VIP (Visually Impaired People) Support Group is facilitated by Al Ayew-ew of the Center for Independent Living, meets the first Tues. of every month at 2:00 at Lighthouse as Silvis-1900 10th St., Silvis, IL. (Call Heather at 309-792-2800 for details or to register)
Stroke Support Group: Third Wednesday of each Month, 2-3 p.m., Genesis at Maplecrest, 2535 Maplecrest Road, Suite 14, Bettendorf. The Genesis Support Group brings together stroke survivors and their families in an atmosphere of caring and sharing to assist recovery. Blood Pressure Checks Available in Genesis office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 12:30- 3:30. Dr. Lynn Boelger will do blood pressure checks on Mondays from 12:30- 2:00 p.m. in the Fitness Center.

Yoga Classes at CASI Starting Mon., Oct.18, CASI will offer a Chair Yoga Class and another Gentle Yoga Class for 6 weeks. The Gentle Yoga Class runs from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.The Chair Yoga will run from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Book Clubs, Movies, Theater, Speakers and Entertainment

Movie Matinee at CASI 2nd Tuesday of the month, starting at 1:00 pm – $2.00 donation includes popcorn and treats. Call 386-7477 for more information.
DAGOBAH is a volunteer-led group that meets on the second Monday of each month, at 6:00 p.m., at the Main Library. It tackles topics such as: movies, comics, and (of course!) books. The group has been thriving for 25 years, and would love to welcome new members.

Arts, Crafts, Knitting and Sewing

Beginning Ceramics at CASI Monday 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Verdene Franklin Member cost:$5 per class.

Crochet and Knitting at CASI – Tuesdays 12:30 – 2:20 Make hats, scarves and mittens to be donated. We will teach beginners to crochet September 7, 14, and 21. Learn how to knit September 28- November 2. Patterns, needles, and yarn provided. Donations of yarn, crochet hooks, and knitting needles are needed.

Other Events

Save the Date The Second Annual Holiday Hat Bash will be held on:Thursday, November 18, 2010 5:30- 8 p.m, CASI 1035 W. Kimberly Rd., Davenport The Holiday Hat Bash event is an evening of fun, music, spectacular raffles all
supporting a good cause. Hats are encouraged but are optional. Decadent gourmet hors d orvres and desserts will be featured by chefs from local senior assisted living centers. All proceeds will provide holiday gifts and food baskets for Quad Cities Seniors.Admission is free. All we ask is a tax deductible donation to support the Senior Santa program.
Act Your Age Senior Theater With Dino Hayz. Games & exercises to boost creativity, strengthen mental clarity, & enhance vitality! 10 weeks beginning Thursday, September 16. Cost: $20 for 10 weeks or $3 per week
“Listen To Me Read” CASI’s “Listen To Me Read” intergenerational literacy program began in 1991. Today the program is in 23 schools in Scott County. This year the program was a recipient of an award fro, the Bi-State Literacy Council . Anyone interested in joining the rewarding experience please call Joy Andrews, CASI “Listen To Me Read” coordinator to enroll for the 2010- 2011 school year. Go to the school of your choice for one hour per week and help a kindergartener, 1st grader or 2nd grader with their reading skills. Our motto is “You can do it!” This applies to both and students and the volunteers.
Martinis to the MAX at the Putnam/IMAX Theatre – Join us each month for a relaxing martini and IMAX experience! Martinis to the MAX features light-up martinis, fabulous food, our featured film, and a great view of the Quad Cities! Reserve your group’s space by calling 324-1054, Ext. 258 or email thompson@putnam.org. Doors open at 5pm, film plays at 6pm and 7pm, bar closes at 8:30pm. The $15 price applies exclusively to Putnam Museum members. Nonmember price is $20. Reservations are required by 5pm the Tuesday prior.
