THE PUBLISHER’S VIEW Inner Thoughts and Comments

We are fortunate to have so many places, clubs, organizations and people that help and support seniors in our QC area. The problem for seniors is that it can be hard to find the various resources available when seeking help. The names of a group or place are  sometimes difficult to locate, as well as the information regarding how they can be of help to a senior. One of the best known places providing help to seniors is CASI, located at 1035 West Kimberly Road in Davenport, Iowa.

In 1998, a young senior wanted to improve other seniors’ awareness of what resources were available in the Quad Cities. She is a true Quad Citian, who was born in Rock Island County and has been a resident of Scott County most of her life. She came up with the idea of creating Senior Voice. The city of Davenport supported her, and she was off and running. Anyone who has met her knows she can “Geteeer Done.” I am speaking, of course, about Ms. Senior Voice, Gloria Fisher. She put printed material together showing where seniors could get transportation, housing, care and a list of agencies that help seniors. She organized an expo at the Mississippi Valley Fair grounds, providing a place where the various agencies and health care providers could meet seniors. Gloria still works non-stop to help seniors enjoy their retirement years. A big thank you to Gloria Fisher for her time and work from all of us at 50+ Lifestyles magazine.

I spent Christmas in the hospital, since I got tired of using duct tape and glue to keep my leg moving. Why am I writing this?? Well, about 10 years ago I had a knee replaced, and it was a pretty tough experience. Prior to my most recent surgery, my knee hurt so bad I could hardly wait to have it done. Fortunately, this time I had little pain. I want to thank Dr. Andrew Bries of ORA for a job well done. Health Care has changed over the years, and it is still changing, from walk-in clinics to hospitals to nursing homes. However, it is still true that nobody knows your body better than you. Till next  month… Take Care.
