SOCIAL SECURITY DELIVERS THE MOST POPULAR BABY NAMES IN ILLINOIS FOR 2016

The Social Security Administration today announced the most popular baby names in Illinois for 2016. Noah and Olivia topped the list. The top five boys and girls names for 2016 in Illinois were:

Boys:

1)   Noah

2)   Liam

3)   Alexander

4)   William

5)   Benjamin

Girls:

1)   Olivia

2)   Emma

3)   Sophia

4)   Ava

5)   Mia

Nancy A. Berryhill, Acting Commissioner of Social Security, announced last week that Noah and Emma were the most popular baby names in the U.S.  How does Illinois compare to the rest of the country? Check out Social Security’s website (www.socialsecurity.gov) to see the top national baby names for 2016.

As is tradition on Baby Names Day, Acting Commissioner Berryhill encourages everyone to visit the agency’s website, enjoy the baby names list, and create a my Social Security account at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccountmy Social Security is a personalized online account that people can use beginning in their working years and continuing through to the time they receive Social Security benefits.

Social Security beneficiaries can have instant access to their benefit verification letter, payment history, and complete earnings record by establishing a my Social Security account.  Beneficiaries also can change their address, start or change direct deposit information, and print a replacement SSA-1099 online. People receiving Social Security can request a replacement Medicare card online.

Individuals age 18 and older who are not receiving benefits can also sign up for a my Social Security account to get their personalized online Social Security Statement. The online Statement provides workers with secure and convenient access to their Social Security earnings and benefit information, and estimates of future benefits they can use to plan for their retirement.

The agency began compiling the baby name list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880.  At the time of a child’s birth, parents supply the name to the agency when applying for a child’s Social Security card, thus making Social Security America’s source for the most popular baby names.

In addition to each state’s top baby names (and names for U.S. territories), Social Security’s website has a list of the 1,000 most popular boys and girls names for 2016.

SOCIAL SECURITY SUPPORTS NATIONAL CANCER SURVIVORS DAY

On June 4, we observe National Cancer Survivors Day in the United States. In support of this day, Social Security encourages getting checkups to provide early detection, raise awareness through education, and recognize the survivors who have gone through this battle or are still living with the disease.

Social Security stands strong in our support of the fight against cancer. We offer services to patients dealing with this disease through our disability insurance program and our Compassionate Allowances program. Compassionate Allowances are cases with medical conditions so severe they obviously meet Social Security’s disability standards, allowing us to process the cases quickly with minimal medical information. Many cancers are part of our Compassionate Allowances list.

There’s no special application or form you need to submit for Compassionate Allowances. Simply apply for disability benefits online, in-person or over the phone. Once we identify you as having a Compassionate Allowances condition, we’ll expedite your disability application. For more information about Compassionate Allowances, including the list of eligible conditions, visit www.socialsecurity.gov/compassionateallowances.

Social Security is with you throughout life’s journey, through good times and bad. If you think you qualify for disability benefits based on a Compassionate Allowances condition, please visit www.socialsecurity.gov to apply for benefits.
