It’s Autumn and October is Awesome

By Eloise Graham

Autumn, the season that connects summer and winter, is one of four temperate seasons. The word autumn can be traced back in various forms to Latin autumnus. The Old French wrote it as autompne, Modern French changed it to automne. By the 16th century it was in common use in England as autumn. Before the 16th century the season was called harvest. American English called it fall.

No matter what you call it, in the Northern Hemisphere, October is the first full month of the season. Days are getting shorter, less than 12 hours a day from sunrise to sunset. Days are getting cooler, average hi on October 1 is 72 degrees but by October 31 the average high is 56 degrees.

Awesome October birthstones are the opal and the tourmaline. Each gem unveils limitless possibilities as each one comes in a rainbow of shades and color combinations.

Awesome October quotes:

“In October, a maple tree before your window lights up your room like a great lamp. Even on cloudy days, its presence helps to dispel the gloom.” John Burroughs.
