As the Chairman of the Greater Iowa Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, and as an attorney who has helped many families dealing with the challenges of Alzheimer’s, I know how important it is to bring an end to this terrible disease. This month, I want to take the opportunity to invite you to join the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

Today, as many as 5.3 million Americans live with Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, 10 million baby boomers are approaching the age of greatest risk for developing this fatal disease. Alzheimer’s has no current cure but treatments for symptoms are available and research continues.

To raise funds – and awareness – the local Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held at the i Wireless Center, Moline, on Saturday, September 10. Registration begins at 8 a.m., the opening ceremony at 9 a.m. and the walk to follow. Participants may choose either a 2-mile or a 4-mile walk. The fundraising goal is $85,000 for the Quad City Walk.

It’s easy to register and participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Information is available on the Alzheimer’s Association’s website, www.alz.org/greateriowa/ or by calling (563) 324-1022. You may register as an individual, join a team or start a team of your own.
