News from Seniors And Law Enforcement Together (SALT)

It is Tax Season,
So Senior, Beware!

Every year, the IRS releases a list of what it calls the worst tax scams of the year. Beginning Feb. 1 and ending on Feb. 17, the IRS issued a news release each day highlighting a scam. Scams can be encountered at any time of year, but the IRS reports that they peak during tax season.
Identity-Theft
Identity theft – Number one scam is to steal your Social Security number to file a tax return with the refund going to them.

Phone scams – Scammers calling you claiming to be from the IRS to gain personal information from you. They threaten arrest if you do not pay your “back fees”. THE IRS WILL NEVER CONTACT YOU VIA THE PHONE.
Never give out information to strangers over the phone. Hang up.
