The Ridgecrest Foundation

By Carrie Dreifurst
Development Director at Ridgecrest Village

The Ridgecrest Foundation is a nonprofit 501©3 organization that was established in 1997 to support the residents and project of Ridgecrest Village Retirement Community. Ridgecrest Village is itself a nonprofit organization, devoted in its mission to provide for its residents’ health, happiness, security, dignity, and wellbeing. The Ridgecrest Foundation helps support this mission.

The Foundation has three different funds that help the village: Koning Charitable, Nursing Fund and General Fund. All three funds are specific to each donor’s designation.

The Koning Charitable Fund is a fund to help Ridgecrest residents who need help meeting their monthly maintenance fees.

The Nursing Scholarship Fund assists those with the financial obligations of furthering their education in health care related fields. Investing in our staff is one way of showing how valued they are to us.

Lastly, we have our General Fund. This fund is for the many projects within the Village. From new dining room chairs, to specialty medical equipment or even additional amenities. The Ridgecrest Foundation can be a source of funding for some of these needs. At Ridgecrest Village, the Foundation exists to help in circumstances such as these.

The Foundation exists under Iowa’s corporate law as a nonprofit corporation. A Board of Trustees that elects its officers governs the Foundation. One Board member also serves on the Board of Christian Retirement homes, Inc., the governing Board of Ridgecrest Village. The Board members represent a cross-section of the community.

There are many ways in which the Foundation raises money for the different funds. The Foundation has created multiple new and exciting fundraising events. The Annual dinner is one of our largest events with all proceeds supporting the Koning Fund. We have started monthly Dine to Donate dinners, online raffle events, online attire store, multiple golf outings, a bowling event, #GivingTuesday online, dining tour book sales, and so much more! Through all these wonderful events, the Ridgecrest Foundation is making headway and bringing attention to the Ridgecrest Village and the wonderful projects of its residents.

The Foundation also gets support with memorials that are directed to that purpose. Many families are generous and leave a portion of an estate to help support the funds worthy causes.
