Fun, Fanciful Facts for July Days

In 44 BC, the Roman Senate decided to honor the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar and name a month after him. Hence, this month became July. Prior to that, it was known as Quintilis, meaning five. The old calendar clumped January, February and March all together. The pronunciation, until about 300 hundred years ago, placed the emphasis on the first syllable making it rhyme with “truly”or “duly.”

Did you know that July 1st is Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day? What creative flavor would you dream up or try? In the Philippines some people have crocodile egg ice cream. In Tokyo you can get raw horse flesh flavored ice cream.

July 2nd is I Forgot Day. I would like to forget I read about ice cream flavors.

The 9th of July is Sugar Cookie Day. About half way between Ice Cream Day and Sugar Cookie Day is Bikini Day. It is celebrated on July 5th. Is that really fitting? If one celebrates too much on Ice Cream day, the bikini might not fit! By the way, July 5, 1946 was the day that Parisian fashion designer Louis Reard invented the bikini.

July 18th is Gummi Worm Day. This candy was originally created by German sweet company Trolli in 1981. They were the pioneers of many a great gummy-sweet candy.

Supposedly at the turn if the 20th Century, American mining engineer Jennings Cox invented the daiquiri on July 19th while spending time in Cuba.

On the 20th of July we celebrate Space Exploration Day. This is also known as Moon Day. Probably no coincidence as the date celebrates man first walking on the moon.

Junk Food Day is celebrated on July 21. So on this day you can make up for all of those celery pieces and carrot sticks. Bon appetit!

The 22nd of July is Hammock Day. History tells us that the hammock was invented by the Mayan thousands of years ago in Mesoamerica and was introduced to Europe by Christopher Columbus.

Gorgeous Grandma Day is July 23. So all of you gorgeous Grandmas celebrate and strut your stuff.

July 27 is Take Your Houseplants For A Walk Day. Not for sure if leash laws apply so you had better check your local ordinances.

If you really want to give the neighbors something to talk about, walk your houseplants wearing your bikini while eating a crocodile egg ice cream cone, gummy bears and drinking a daiquiri. Enjoy July!
