A Pause for Poetry

Fox in Moonlight

The full moon lays down a patchwork
Blanket of pastel light, like spilled white
Wine, on the woods out back, eldritch
Panorama to behold, courtesy of clouds
Transiting before the moon, patching light
Onto our land. A red fox sneaks from the
Woods to take his ease, sits transfixed in
Moonlight for the longest time, enjoying the
Light away from dark woods, a moonlight
Retreat so to speak, a fox stay-vacation of
Sorts. I never saw a fox do that before and
Never since. Strange vulpine thing I saw,
Welcome on a snowy winter night.

I Am Clown

I am clown, I wear many painted faces and
Do myriad pranks to tickle your funny bone
With my big clown gloves. I mime a lot,
Universal argot of risible connection in my
Trade of mirth. I make merry to your inner kid
And especially to your kids, so ready to scream
Glee at grown folly. I don colorful outfits,
Outsize polka dot, ruffed costumes and many
More to trick your eyes from your daily grind.
I uplift you from your worries with my antics,
Minister to your psyche, prancing about in my
Big clown shoes and mugging my clown face to
The crowd. I seek to captivate you with my
Hysterics in my make-believe world of cathartic
Fantasy, that is what I do, clown mania at your
Service, wild fun to make your day.
