A Pause for Poetry

By Gary Heath
Poet in Residence for 50+ Lifestyles.

Leaves in the Forest

Leaves in the forest rustled faintly.
I could smell them beginning to die.
Suddenly my soul was in the past,
And full of yearning. I approached
The forest shadows and their sense
Of mystery, hoping to pass there,
Right through the veil, and bypass
The un-happened event. There’s no
Going back. Of course not. There are
No alternative histories. Everything
Has to be as it was. My time had not
Been then. But my time was coming
Now.

Worth Our Birth

A birth denies the void. It is a blessed
Event, denial of omnipresent demise.
We are blessed with one seminal,
Inaugural event launching us onto our
Exciting odyssey to prove we are worth
Our birth. Our journey can be more
Fraught than we’d like, but it is our
Scintilla of eternity to try to do our best.
Our birth is a test of humanity and
Perseverance against an impersonal
Cosmos ruled by physics. Our births
Bring renaissance to the universe.
