A Pause for Poetry

I Am Rain

I am rain, I am full of water for you,
For good or ill. I grow your garden or
I flood your town, my teeming drops
Slake the worst thirst or I fail to fall
And desiccated tongues drag the dust.
I am the font of life, no me you return
To the dust of your birth. I am rain,
Master of elements, please me all you
Want, I will be kind or not, I care not,
Me or not, too much of me, or too
Little. I am rain, supreme in the skies,
I fall on a whim or I fall not, I am
Rain, pray or dance for me, I will fall
On you or not, I am master of life,
I am rain.

I Am Mountain

I am mountain. My shoulders, flanks
Bear heavy boulders. Beware my
Boulders, remains of the volcano that
Made me. My boulders can flatten
You quick. I am mountain. I loom
Large over the valley. Many climb me
For the view, feast eyes on the pristine
Valley below where cows graze lush,
Verdant fields and orchards grow
Juicy pears and apples for you to eat.
Winsome woods thrive on my lower
Reaches, where young lovers entwine
Hands as spring flowers rise. I am
Mountain to all who climb me, who
View me from near and far. I am piled
Here by lava, to do what mountains do,
To be a mountain just for you.
