February, the littlest month, starts out super big! That is Super Sunday! Super Bowl XLIX (49) will be played Sunday, February 1, 2015, with the New England Patriots facing the Seattle Seahawks. The Super Bowl is the play-off between the NFC, National Football Conference, and the AFC, American Football Conference. The NFC has won 26 of the past 48 games. Nineteen different franchises,  including teams that have relocated to different cities, have won the contest. The Pittsburgh Steelers have taken home the title six  times, followed by Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers with five wins each. Next up are Green Bay Packers and New York Giants  with four wins.

There are many other “super” events for February.
Valentine’s Day has been a super day for lovers, dining out, giving jewelry, buying candy and flowers, making and delivering cards.

Presidents Day, celebrating the “super” leaders of our country is on the third Monday in February. It will be Monday, February 16 this year. But in researching this, I found some interesting information. The correct name is Washington’s Birthday. Taken from Wikipedia, “Washington’s Birthday is a United States federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February in honor of George Washington, the first President of the United States. It is also a state holiday in most states where it is known by a variety of names including Presidents Day and Washington’s and Lincoln’s Birthday. Colloquially, the holiday is widely known as ‘Presidents Day’ and is often an occasion to celebrate, or at least remember, all presidents and not just George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.”

Mardi Gras – Another “super” celebration in February this year is Mardi Gras, which is French for Fat Tuesday. The Carnival, with all of its parades
and festivities, begins February 6 and ends on Tuesday, February 17.
