Busy Times in the Hilltop Campus Village
Construction at the Martin Luther King Interpretive Center
Road construction on Brady is not the only construction going on in this community. At the bottom of the hill, 5th and Brady to be exact, there has been construction for a three story apartment complex. The lower level has been designated for Martin Luther King Interpretive Center. There will also be a Martin Luther King Park outside of the complex.
Construction at the Davenport High School Auditorium Complex
Moving up the hill, there has been a lot of construction at Davenport Central High School. A new auditorium complex and a swim pool to host meets have been added to the existing high school building. A truly complimentary addition to the Hilltop Campus Village, the architecture keeps the charm and nostalgia of the older building while adding modern lines for the new addition. Drive by and look it over!
A little farther up the hill, Palmer College of Chiropractic is adding a new complex. Facing Brady, this will be the R. Richard Bittner Athletic & Recreational Center. The landscaping will allow for some great little respite spots in the green space.

At the top of the hill, across Locust and on to Lombard Street you can see the construction of St. Ambrose’s Wellness and Recreation Center. The new center will provide exercise and activity space for the general student population, lab space for some of the university’s health and wellness-related academic programs including Kinesiology, and much-needed practice space for student-athletes who participate in the university’s 23 varsity sports.
Santa’s visit at the D’Allen Salon Suites
All of this construction did not deter Santa from making an appearance at D’Allen Salon Suites on December 17 … nor will it keep Cupid away in February.
Many of the merchants will again have heart related and sweetheart specials throughout the month. Cupid is again, coming to the Hilltop Campus Village.
“Everything Red and Chocolate”
at East side Bakery
East Side Bakery, at 1501 N. Harrison, Davenport, will have “Everything Red and Chocolate.” Nikki says she loves to do special orders, just the way you want them, but she needs at least two days lead-time. Remember, Valentine’s Day is on a Tuesday, so give her four days or more notice for items to be picked up on the 14th. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 9: p.m.
Hats, Hair ‘n Wigs
Hats, Hair ‘n Wigs, at 1515 N. Harrison, Davenport will be celebrating cupid’s arrows all month long. Gloria is planning on having 25 percent off of ALL red or white hats and fascinators. Stop in and see her. She’s got you covered… your head, that is! Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
