Race for the Cure®

Susan G. Komen Quad Cities

One out of every eight women will get breast cancer over a lifetime. But if it’s detected early, the 5-year survival rate is 98 percent.

The Susan G. Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure® needs your help to raise money towards the early detection of breast cancer right here in our own bi-state area. We can better the lives of those facing breast cancer in our community.

Since the inception of the local Race in 1990, we have invested more than $5 million in local breast health and breast cancer awareness projects in our 8-county, bi-state service area. Up to 75 percent of the net proceeds generated by the Komen Quad Cites Affiliate Affiliate stay in the QCA while the remaining income goes to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Programs supporting research, awards and educational and scientific programs around the world.

How can you get involved? Sign up to participate in the Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure® at www.komenquadcities.org or pick up an application at one of numerous area retailers after April 1st. If you can’t participate in the June 12th Race, you can sign up to “Sleep-In for the Cure” and get some extra rest or fulfill another commitment. We’ll mail you a t-shirt after the Race.

You can also help find a cure for breast cancer with a few keystrokes and the click of a mouse. Create an online pledge page to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure®. Go to www.komenquadcities.org to setup your own page–you can set a monetary goal, receive pledges from friends and family, and upload a photo to personalize your page. Participants in the Friends for the Cure Pledge Program who raise more than $100 will receive a prize.

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, we have invested nearly $1.3 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
