CANCER- Look Good…Feel Better 6-8 p.m., Monday, May 17 (Illinois) 3-5 p.m. This program teaches beauty techniques to female cancer patients in active treatment to help them combat the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. The American Cancer Society, in partnership with the National Cosmetology Association and the Cosmetics, Toiletry and Fragrance Association, train volunteer cosmetologists to teach women how to cope with skin changes and hair loss using free cosmetics and skin care products donated by the cosmetic industry. Fee: Free.

SURGICAL WEIGHT LOSS Surgical Weight Loss Seminar 6-8 p.m., Mondays, May 10, or June 14 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 25 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 29 Learn the latest information about different types of bariatric surgeries available at Trinity, including lap-band surgery. Fee: $25.

Cards and Games

Calling all Card Players – Cards at the Friendly House Would you like to join a card club on Wednesdays? Groups of seniors get together to play card games every Wednesday in the Friendly House senior lounge. There is no charge. We are always looking for more players. Call Lydia at 563 323 1821 ext 19

Day Trip by Bus to Starved Rock Lodge Musical Tribute to the Stars, Monday June 21. A Tribute to the Andrew Sisters by “The Legendary Girls” Bus leaves CASI at 9:30am and returns 5:00pm. Martinis to the MAX at the Putnam/IMAX Theatre – Every third Thursday Join us every third Thursday of the month for a relaxing martini and IMAX experience! German American Heritage Center in Davenport, Iowa visitors can explore the museum’s 4,000 square feet of permanent and special exhibits. Visitors will enjoy an interactive experience as they learn about immigrants’ journey by sea, train and foot, to their final destination at the German American Heritage Center building, which was originally a very busy hotel for thousands of immigrants in the 1860s. The current special rotating exhibit is Amana: Moving to the City. This exhibit features artifacts and explores how Amana society members made a difficult decision to leave the communal society during the Great Depression to come to the City of Davenport.The German American Heritage Center works to preserve and enrich the German immigrant experience and its impact on the American Culture. The museum also partners with other cultural groups to demonstrate the contributions immigrants from many countries and from varied backgrounds have made to the ethnic palette which is the United States.For more information on all of the museum’s exhibits, programs, events, classes, and workshops visit www.gahc.org or call 563-322-8844. Engineering Marvels: Explore the Hennepin & Other Canals
Sunday, May 16 at 2:00 p.m. Cost: Free with museum admission; Free for members. Presented by Dan Reid, The Hennepin Canal, built in 1892 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was the first American canal built of concrete without stone cut facings. Some of the innovations pioneered on the Hennepin Canal were probably used on the Panama Canal. Both used concrete lock chambers and both used a Feeder canal from a man made lake to water the canals because both needed water to flow ‘uphill.’ (Description from Illinois DNR)

German Cooking with Herbs Sunday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. Cost: Free with museum admission; Free for members. Presented by Gisela McDonald Gisela will talk about herbs that are used more frequently in German cooking than in cooking in the United States. She will bring samples of a sorrel soup to taste and the recipe. Gisela has been growing herbs for more than 15 years and is a member of the QC Herbs group.
