On The Go With Joe Hutter

Enforcement Together (SALT)

By Joe Hutter

What a year this has been so far – from snow to water…

On August 5, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. members of SALT (Seniors and Law enforcement Together) and the Scott County Sheriff’s Office will be at the Mississippi Valley Fair. We will have safety information , and Sheriff Dennis Conard will also be there to answer any question you may have about the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff and his staff have been very supportive of SALT. SALT is our local Triad group which was organized by the National Sheriff’s Association, the International Chiefs of Police Association and AARP. Everyone is invited to attend our meetings on the 4th Wednesday of every month at CASI in Davenport.

Here’s a little tidbit of information. If Iowa’s senior population continues at its current growth, Iowa will have nearly 540,000 licensed citizens over 65 years old. If you are older than 75 years old, beware of left turns and automobile crashes because they occur more frequently at ages 75 or older.
Identity theft is increasing everyday. You may have heard of what happened last month at MasterCard and other banks with the theft of names and personal information that thieves get from bank computers.

How can you prevent this from happening to you? Some of the things you can do to avoid becoming a victim of theft are:

• Never provide your personal information in response to any unsolicited email or phone call.
• Never provide your password or any security code over the telephone to anyone that contacts you by phone or mail.
• Review you account statement regularly to ensure all charges and transactions are yours and that they are correct.

Damage to your credit history can be done and it could take years to clear up. Remember: I.D. theft can happen to anyone at anytime.

I’m looking forward to meeting you at the Mississippi Valley Fair’s Senior Day on Thursday, August 5th!

Take care.
