From the Mailbag

Graham, EloiseBy Eloise Graham

Recently, I received a letter asking where the 50+ Lifestyles could be found.

The delivery area includes all of the metro area Quad Cities, Muscatine and Walcott to the west, Milan and Coal Valley on the south, Geneseo to the east, and north up the river to Savanna in Illinois, and Clinton, DeWitt, Eldridge, Princeton and LeClaire on the Iowa side.

The locations include all of the Trinity and Genesis Hospitals and clinics, Henry Hammond Hospital and Mercer Hospital. Also many of the doctors’ offices connected with the hospitals and clinics as well as
smaller private practices. Some chiropractors and a few dentists have them in their lobbies. All of the HyVees, some Fareways, Schnucks, and CVS pharmacies have racks that carry the newspaper. All of Scott County GenAge Café sites handle the paper. The libraries of Rock Island, Bettendorf, Davenport, Eldridge, Walcott, Moline are other sites. Many local restaurants and a few fast food places. Banks in all of our communities have them. The social security offices and the IA DOT have them, as well as most of the senior living centers, all of the senior activity centers and some beauty shops and barber shops. The companies that advertise with us also have them.

The delivery day is usually the first Wednesday of the month. Restocking takes place a week later. Often, grocery stores are restocked on Fridays. I was asked why the issues weren’t in the store until the 10th or 12th of the month. They had been there before. The latter date would have been a restock date. It is hard to guess at what rate they will be picked up. We try to do our best at keeping them restocked.

If you are a subscriber, your paper comes to town from the printers at the same time the other bundles do. Then those bundles are taken to the company that labels and mails them out. They are normally mailed one to two days after they arrive there. They are not mailed first class, so once they are taken to the post office from mailer, it is up to the postal service as to when they get delivered. I know it is frustrating to not get it for a couple of weeks. I have one sent to me, so that I am sure they are going out. There have been times when my sister in Colorado received her copy the day before I received mine.

If you are one of the hundreds of people that enter the contests, save yourself a stamp and put your enteries in one envelope. All entries go to the same P.O. Box and are opened individually, then sorted to wordgame, Stoney Creek Inn or Village Inn contests. Individual envelopes don’t increase your chances – so save a stamp.
