Max’s Musings

By Max Molleston

It is now time  to show “sweetness” or concern for others in you life, however close to you, or distant in geography. You are my Valentine or may I be yours. Not normal but possible. These include one to my sister in Illinois, and another to my sister-in-law in Arkansas. They will likely receive the same card. Quick, firm decisions make short work of any card selection area. I walk to that special, clever 99 cent card that outshines  the other mushy ones that ring up as five or six dollars and play music. Last year we chose a poem of Mike Bayles, where his young cousin moved to an astronomical bent, “what’s beyond the stars,” which I felt was sweetly inquisitive; very cute; endearing.

The greatest idea I have to pass your way is DON’T  FORGET!!  Post reminders on your main computer,  or on your tablet in a place you WILL NOT MISS.  DON’T MISS THE DATE!

David Stanley Burr gathered Love poems in a volume he titled  LOVE POEMS (you are not supposed to miss that title).  Barnes and Noble published the book in 2002 . Here is
one we enjoyed written sometime toward  the middle 1800s, I imagine.

Jenny Kiss’d Me

Jenny kiss’d me when we met,

Jumping from the chair she sat in;

Time, you thief, who live to get

Sweets into your list, put that in!

Say I’m weary, say I’m sad,

Say that health and wealth have miss’d me,

Say I’m growing old, but add,

Jenny kiss’d  me.

I just love discovering poems like that, as American as can be. Lots of reading and searching for what I like and what you might like. That is a poet’s risk .

I close this special month of sweet messages with a poem that is short and moves a different direction. It gives a very concise four line advice in the sense of love and caring for another.  No title, the message doesn’t seem to need one.

Love triumphs over

Sadness and despair

Rests  our realities and

Peacefully relies on us.

That closes your  “sweetness,” desired for this special date on the calendar. DON’T FORGET. We will be on track here in March. Join us!
