Birthday Wishes for July

Happy Birthday to the USA!

Wishing a Happy Birthday to our country celebrating 242 years. It has seen meager times, and times of plenty; times of war and times of peace; happy times and chaotic times; times of growth and expansion… in other words, it has seen it all. We wonder what its future will bring. But whatever is in store for the future, we wish the “Home of the free and the brave” a magnificent birthday.

A few other July birthdays:

July 1, 1903 – Amy Johnson, British Aviator. The first female to fly solo from Britain to Australia.
Died Jan 5, 1941

July 2, 1908 – Thurgood Marshall, American Associate Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court. He served from October 1967 to October 1991. He was the first African-American justice. Died Jan 24,1 993

July 3, 1878 – George M. Cohan, American entertainer, playwright, composer. lyricist, actor, singer, dancer, and producer. died Nov. 5, 1942

July 4, 1927 – Gina Lollobrigida, Italian actress, photojournalist, and sculptor. On Feb. 1, 2018, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Retired from acting in 1997.

July 5, 1946 – Balakumaran, Indian writer, Indian Tamil author of over 200 novels, 100 short stories and screenplays for 23 films. Dies May 5, 2018.

July 10, 1509 – John Calvin, French theologian, pastor and Protestant Reformer. Died May 27, 1564.

July 11, 1767 – John Quincy Adams, American statesman, diplomat, and ambassador. He was the 6th President of the United States. Died Feb. 23, 1848.

July 12, 1997 – Malala Yousafzai, Pakistani activist for female education. She is the youngest Nobel Prize laureate.
At age 15, she was shot by the Taliban for going to school.

July 13, 1944 – Emo Rubik, Hungarian inventor, architect, and professor of architecture. Best know for the Rubik’s Cube.

July 14, 1932 – Rosie Greer, American former pro-football player for the Los Angeles Rams. He was a bodyguard for Robert Kennedy’s presidential campaign. He was guarding Ethel Kennedy the night of the assassination. He was able to take control of the gun and subdue Sirhan Sirhan, the assassin.

July 15, 1850 – Frances Xavier Cabrini, American religious sister. She founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a religious institute supporting Italian immigrants. On July 7, 1946, she was canonized by the Roman Catholic Church. Died Dec. 22, 1917.
