CASI Holiday Hat Bash

Ten years ago a small group of passionate, dedicated volunteers threw an event celebrating hats and seniors. They lovingly called it The Hat Bash, and it was seen as the community’s Party with a Purpose.  For 10 years, The CASI Holiday Hat Bash has been raising funds to support seniors during the holidays and throughout the year.

Quad Citizens young and old come together to celebrate the role and contributions made by those who have come before us. To celebrate their independence and support their needs. Over 400 people attend the event every year.  Each donning their best hat to be tipped in honor of all seniors in our community.

The funds raised during the event help support the purchase of gifts for vulnerable seniors during the holiday season as well as senior services at CASI all year long.  Each year CASI offers close to 8,000 activities that are geared towards independence and successful aging.  Our comprehensive programming includes ways to increase socialization, access education, participate in health and wellness

This includes the CASI Senior Advocacy program; a free program for all seniors in the Quad Cities.  This program employs professional social workers to visit with older adults in their home to identify the resources and services they need to remain independent for as long as is possible.  An estimated 1,500 older adults are served annually through this program with 90 percent remaining independent in their homes.

Hat Bash Funds also support Jane’s Place, Eastern Iowa’s only licensed Adult Day Services program for individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.  Jane’s Place is a one of kind service that offers supportive services for participants in a homelike environment as well as much needed respite for caregivers.  Research has shown that individuals who participate in Adult Day Services tend to remain independent in their homes for up to 18 months longer than those who do not access these services.
