The Civic Side of the Hilltop Campus Village

One of the strategic initiatives of the Hilltop Campus Village’s Organization workgroup involves the encouraging of “Civic Engagement.”

We feel we need to be aware of and involved in our local government. It is an important component of strengthening a neighborhood.

That is why the Hilltop Campus Village has undertaken to organize, host and promote candidate forums for local elections such as County Boards of Supervisors and most recently the Mayoral candidate forums, held at SAU on September 26 and attended by more than 230 people. This event was very well received in the community.

We also promoted the Davenport School Board District Candidate forum, where the 14 declared candidates were invited to share their perspectives on issues related to public education and the business of the district. This was held on October 21.

The Hilltop Campus Village is prohibited from promoting candidates and makes no endorsements. The intention is to have citizens of all ages aware of the working of the government. If a resident or local business knows who to contact regarding a concern they have, they feel more engaged and have an opportunity to see how the system works. From the public sector perspective, there is much to be gained by having inquiries from constituents. This fostering of two-way communication not only increases transparency and openness, but it also helps build trust and mutual respect. These elements are at the cornerstone of strong towns and stable neighborhoods.

The Hilltop Campus Village, a Main Street Iowa community, comprised of residences, shops, services, schools, eateries, churches, colleges, and non- profits is truly interested in this community.

You can help by supporting the businesses, services and activities here. Remember Small Business Saturday on the 30th of this month.
