Dr. Phelps: Davenport Surgical Group Education Program

At Davenport Surgical Group, we are incredibly proud to offer an education program to give residents and students one-on-one mentorship opportunities with our skilled Board Certified General Surgeons.

Each of our six Board Certified General Surgeons works with a student in residency between three and four times a year and these students and residents come from all over the area including Des Moines University, Iowa City, St. Ambrose and more.

“We are incredibly lucky to give these residents and students the one-on-one attention and guidance that is so critical during this time in their medical career,” says Dr. Michael A. Phelps, MD, FACS. “Sometimes we see those residents and students come through Davenport Surgical Group knowing exactly what area they want to practice, and after a great
experience with one of our Board Certified General Surgeons they end up changing their mind.”

This past November, Dr. Phelps and Family Practice Resident, Dr. Fraehlich, worked side-by-side completing surgical rotations at Davenport Surgical Group.

“Working side-by-side with our students and residents is a true honor. When we were students in residence we relied on mentors, so it is a great opportunity for us to return that and keep it going. It’s a great way to keep all generations as current as possible,” says Dr. Phelps.
