Ed’s Breakfast Bingo at Chick-fil-A

Every other Thursday morning at Chick-fil-A Davenport you’ll find the place packed, but it’s not just the great breakfast food that draws people in, it’s Ed’s Breakfast Bingo!

Ed Roush is 82 years old and has been leading Bingo every 2nd and 4th Thursday morning for almost 4 years at Chick-fil-A Davenport located off of Elmore Ave & 53rd Street in Davenport.

If you’ve visited this location at all in the past 10 years, you’ll know that Ed is a staple in the dining room. Most often during lunch or dinner, you’ll find him walking around and sharing stories with guests. His genuine smile and outgoing personality are some of the reasons people love coming to Bingo.
“The customers really enjoy it” comments Ed, who loves seeing everyone get together. Most of the retirees start arriving around 7:15 a.m. to get breakfast and a free small coffee. As 8:00 a.m. rolls around, guests grab a free refill, playing card, chips and join Ed to get started.

Diagonal, Four Corners, you name the Bingo game and Ed will most likely play it at least once during the nine games played. As the numbers are called, Ed jokes with the crowd. “I pick on people intentionally and they do the same back to me,” he says with a smile. During the winter months, Ed averages around 23 people, while in the summer there are about 33.
Many players join on a weekly basis while on occasion guests will drive as many as 45 miles round trip to play the game. Such is the case with Leroy (pictured above). Although he doesn’t come every week, every once in a while, he’ll make the trip to have fun with Ed and the other guests.
Through the years, Ed has developed great friendships with many of his regular Bingo players and looks forward to seeing them every other week. When the game finishes up around 9:00 a.m, many people stick around for lunch and good conversations.
