A Pause for Poetry

Nude on Snow

If you see a naked person running
Through the snow, slipping on ice,
The winter’s running too long. Cabin
Fever has set into your dreary soul.
Your mind has gone around an ice
Sculpture, that may be what you saw.

The Caged Heart

It’s winter and snowing on the caged
Heart, ice clings to the cage, fingers
Freeze on the bars, cling in pain. The
Heart throbs hard for what it misses,
What the heart needs most, much
More outside, what it loved about
Life before the cage. Constrained life,
Life limited, fills the cage with ennui
And anger frozen, ready to melt free,
To burst free of the frozen bars.
Pressure rises in the heart at the icy
Void, calms at the hope of a key to
The cage, to swing open the cruel
Confining door, as the snow and ice
Of winter relent, and the trees of
Spring begin to green free.
