Summer Celebrations

Summer is the time for family reunions, ice cream, lightning bugs and trips to the community pool.  The libraries hold their summer reading programs, and the parks are brimming with children enjoying the weather and their summer break from school.  Families head out for the yearly summer vacation, and we all talk about the Midwest
weather.

July is a month that we think about freedom, patriotism and those who make this possible for us. We celebrate our Veterans and those currently serving in all branches of the military. In the interest of all things red, white and blue we enjoy family picnics and fireworks, kids’ laughter and time spent together. But the true heroes are those that have served and protected our country. If you have a loved one who served, now is a good time to celebrate them and encourage them to share their experiences with you if they are comfortable. In my years of working with seniors I have been lucky to hear some incredible stories of service.

One of the resources we have here in the Quad Cities is the Rock Island Arsenal Cemetery. Burial in the cemetery is a benefit and honor bestowed on those that have served and their spouses. Park Vista-North Hill will be hosting the Director of the Rock Island Cemetery Complex, Matt Tomes, to share the history of the cemetery, and Legal Administrative Specialist, Scott Meister, to discuss Veterans’ Benefits. This is a free event and will be very beneficial for those with questions or those interested in learning the history of the Cemetery and what benefits they are eligible for. Our speakers will also be available to help start the required paperwork for the Cemetery. This will be followed by a Happy Hour with our residents and live music.  This is a great time to visit Park Vista’s beautiful campus located at 1451 20th Ave, East Moline, IL and learn more about these well-deserved benefits and join us for Happy Hour. Tours will also be available.   

This event will be held on July 24th, 1 pm to 3 pm with Happy Hour immediately following.
