On the Go With Joe Hutter
By Joe Hutter
This is the month we get all kinds of mail and phone calls asking seniors for donations. Seniors are a soft touch for money, and non-profit agencies know at this time of the year that we want to help other people not as fortunate as some seniors. Christmas is a time for giving, but you should know what your donation will be used for and how much of it will go for people’s salary. Some CEOs get a salary of over a million dollars. You can look up the agency or non-profit organization on the Better Business Bureau web site. Give to a local charity that will help people or kids in the Quad City area. Local churches can always use your donation.
Remember DO NOT give personal information to anyone on the phone. DO NOT trust Caller ID on your phone. If someone on the phone tells you they have something for you that is FREE, hang up immediately. DO NOT give any of your account numbers to anyone on the phone. If you want to put your phone number on the DO NOT CALL LIST, call 1-888 382-1222.
May you have a Merry Christmas and enjoy every day with your family. If you have any questions, call Pam at the Scott County Sheriff’s office at (563) 326-8217. We are not just here for people that live in Iowa. Everyone is invited to attend our meetings at CASI, 1035 W. Kimberly Rd. Davenport. Our next meeting will be January 28, 2015. Again, Merry Christmas to all and to all a Happy New Year.
