A Busy Community
By Mary Huebbe

Ridgecrest Village
Let me just start out by saying “I love my job!”
I have never worked, lived or seen anywhere else that has a community as loving and active as the one I work in. There is always something going on and someone making sure others are taken care of both spiritually and physically. Don’t take my word for it though, because I don’t live here. Instead let me show you a letter one of my residents, Barb Thede, wrote:
“Ridgecrest Village – a village within a city. Northwest Boulevard is the street in front of my hometown. You will see our beautiful gazebo on your drive down my street, along with our flower beds, monarch butterfly gardens and park like settings. There are benches to sit on, quiet places to relax, and enjoy God’s world around us.
Ridgecrest offers cottages and apartments for Independent Living, apartments for Assisted Living, with a Memory Care area for our loved ones that have slipped into forgetfulness, and a place to go if more care is needed with our skilled care and nursing in our Crest Health Center. But wait! There is so much more.
Make new friends but keep the old; one is silver and the other’s gold. As we settle into our new life, Ridgecrest has someone that can help hang your pictures. You will find a coffee cake or cookies outside your door. Friendly faces everywhere you go, cheery hellos on the way to and from the dining area. Then when you get there; how do you choose from so many food varieties they give you? You will find friendly hellos inviting you to share a table with them, as they bow their heads and pray thanking, God for the wonderful food and companionship they have found. Afterwards, we are off to the musical program in the Koning Center or some other activity.
Chaplin Sue is our full time pastor, and she is here every Sunday for our morning church service. I always wonder who is going to sing or perform along side of her. Will it be the Ladies’ Choir or our men’s group “the Ridge Revelers.” It could even be our bell chimes group. You really just never know.
Weekends are no different than weekdays here at Ridgecrest, there is just so much to do. Saturday night movies, cards, games, book club, music and trips out with our new bus. This Sunday we went to the Symphony. Don’t forget to reserve the bus, car or van for your doctor’s appointments or banking and grocery shopping. Ed even takes us to the Jumer’s Casino!
I must remember to invite my friends to all the wonderful special events we have such as the Wine and Cheese social, or the USO show. They even do Hoe- downs or an Oktoberfest, something special for each season. The team at Ridgecrest enjoys working together to make sure everyone has a good time. They might not be perfect all the time, but they do whatever they can to be as close to perfect as possible.
I now know why I moved into Ridgecrest! It’s because it is not for old people, but for the young at heart. It is a safe harbor (living on the Mississippi River) for you to have heaven on earth. It is a place to be when you’re pulling into the dock for the last time. I call it God’s waiting room on Earth.”
I couldn’t ask for better words than the ones she said. When I’m giving tours, I really feel it is our Residents selling our facility. This is what they tell people when we pass them in the hallway. My job is the best in the world, because what I am doing is giving our seniors in the community peace of mind and joy for their remaining years here on earth.
Please call Mary 288-3215 or Bob 388-3431 for a lunch and tour.
