- The Great Arch in St. Louis is completed; it commemorates the Lousiana Purchase I 1808.
- Race riots in Watts section of Los Angeles leave 34 dead
- The Voting Rights Act becomes law.
- Medicare program for senior citizens medical assistance becomes law.
- The Beatles take the music world by storm. Their concert at Shea Stadium on August 15th, 1965 was the largest crowd in music history at that time. They open with ‘Twist and Shout’!
- Martin Luther King walks with a crowd of 10,000 in downtown Chicago to protest segregation in city schools.
- Sir Winston Churchill dies at the age of 90 from a stroke.
- The 1964-65 World’s Fair in New York City comes to a close.
- Malcolm X is brutally murdered.
- On September 9th a category 3 hurricane slams into New Orleans claiming 75 lives and resulting in one billion dollars in damage.
- Hilary Rodman is a senior at Maine East High School, Park Ridge Illinois
- Lyndon B. Johnson is President of the United States.
- The first combat troops arrive in Viet Nam.
- Best picture My Fair Lady wins 8 Academy Awards.
