Quad Cities Alzheimer’s Association Programs and events in May: May 6th 3-4:30 pm at Intouch Adult Day Center, 4011 Ave of the Cities, Moline, Memory Minders Support Group for people in the early stages and their primary caregivers; May 6th: 6-7:30 pm, Senior Star, 4504 Elmore Ave, Davenport, Maintain Your Brain: Are there ways to delay or prevent Alzheimer’s?, a program for anyone interested in this information; May7th: 3-6 pm, Open House at the new Alzheimer’s office, 2208 E 52nd St., Davenport. QC Breast Cancer Support Group (Iowa): First Tuesday of each month, 7-9 pm downstairs Trinity at Terrace Park, 4500 Utica Ridge Road, Bettendorf. (Illinois):Third Wednesday of each month, noon luncheon at Butterworth Center, 1105-8th Street, Moline For women dealing with breast cancer or survivors of breast cancer. Diabetes Support Group at Genesis: First Tuesday of each month, 11:00AM to Noon, Larson Center, Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL Recommended for people with diabetes who are interested in receiving help with diabetes self-management. Cost: none. Registration: 309-792-4389

Grief Support Group – CASI 1035 W Kimberly Road 2nd and 4th Wednesdays 9:30-11:00 Hosted by Vicky Ertel. Donation accepted

Low Vision Support Group at CASI: the first Thursday of every month at CASI, 1035 W. Kimberly Road, Davenport, IA, facilitated by Lilah Bell (Call 563-386- 7477 Ext. 231 for details or to register) Anyone with vision problems is welcome to attend.

The VIP (Visually Impaired People) Support Group is facilitated by Al Ayew-ew of the Center for Independent Living, meets the first Tues. of every month at 2:00 at Lighthouse as Silvis-1900 10th St., Silvis, IL. (Call Heather at 309-792-2800 for details or to register)

Parkinson Support Group Meets at CASI: Please join the Davenport Metro Parkinson Support Group at 10 am –Noon, third Sat of the month at CASI, 1035 W. Kimberly Rd, Davenport. May will be the last meeting this season with guest speaker Dr.Elisa Huff discussing swallowing. We will start up again in the fall. Have a great summer.

Stroke Support Group: Third Wednesday of each Month, 2-3 p.m., Genesis at Maplecrest, 2535 Maplecrest Road, Suite 14, Bettendorf. The Genesis Support Group brings together stroke survivors and their families in an atmosphere of caring and sharing to assist recovery. SMOKING CESSATION PREVIEW/SUPPORT GROUP call Trinity’s My Nurse at (309) 779-2000 or (877) 242-8899. 6-8 p.m., Trinity offers a preview session on how to quit smoking. Please join us as we help you map out a strategy that is right for you on your journey to becoming smoke-free. Fee: Free.

Registration and pre-payment are required for all classes.Stott Pilates Method: Intermediate level 5:30-6:30 p.m., Tuesdays, May 25 to June 29 ($48/six weeks) Whether you’re 18 or 80, you can use Pilates for general fitness or as cross training with other sports, dance and exercise regimes to greatly improve your performance. The rhythmic exercises will promote a strong and flexible body core. An exercise mat is required for class.

T’ai Chi – The Essence of T’ai Chi 6:30-7:30 p.m.,Tuesdays, May 18 to June 29 ($42/six weeks) If you are searching for relaxation and inner peace while being physically fit, T’ai Chi is for you. T’ai Chi offers meditation in motion, a system of rounded, fluid and balanced movements that help center your mind and strengthen your body.

Qigong 7:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesdays,May 18 to June 29 ($48/six weeks) You will be “working with the life energy” when learning Qigong, the ancient Chinese art of cultivating and training your internal energy to relieve stress and pain for health and healing.

SPIRITUAL LIFE Meditation for Balanced Living Wednesdays, May 19 to June 30 ($49/seven weeks). In this class you will learn to transform stress into healthy vitality and calm the mind through the ancient practice of meditation and breathing exercises.
