Hilltop Campus Village – Donuts & More

In 1984, Jan and Tom Amyette started in the bakery business. They bought into a Donutland franchise, converting an existing building on 16th Street in Moline into their doughnut shop.

When the parent company went bankrupt, they continued their thriving business as an independent entity, renaming it “Donuts & More.” They decided to expand their business ventures and opened a store in Davenport. They now have two stores, 2430 16th Street, Moline and 1717 Brady Street in Davenport. The Hilltop Campus Village location on Brady Street became home to Donuts & More in 2000.

What does their store offer? Let’s start with 40 varieties of doughnuts. Add to that Danish, bagels, fancies and donut holes. These pictures show you some of their tasty treats, but you have to go there to feel the real experience… the aroma of baking! Their hours are 4:30 a.m to 2:00 p.m. every day of the week. Besides the baked goods, they offer coffee, juices, soft drinks – and they “got milk?”!

There is plenty of parking and a large eating area great for meeting with friends for morning coffee and eats. If you are in a hurry, there is a convenient drive-up window.

When asked what they liked about the Hilltop Campus Village, Tom was quick to say, “I appreciate the loyalty of the customers.” If you recall, that section of Brady had been under various and serious stages of construction from late spring until a few weeks ago. Tom said that many of the regulars played “avoid-the-orange-cones” as they made their way into the parking lot.

Jan said she has enjoyed seeing all of the positive changes that have happened in the area. While a lot of emphasis and new shop openings have occurred on the Harrison corridor, she has marveled at all of the construction within eyesight of their store. Walgreen’s built a new store on the corner of Locust and Brady, Aldi’s redeveloped their store right across the street, Acentra Credit Union built and opened up their new location about 18 months ago and a new Laundromat, Sanitary Suds has built and opened up on Locust. Just another testimony that things are happening in the Hilltop Campus Village.

Jan and Tom are community-minded people. They have discounts for churches and school groups. Please ask what they have to offer.

Jan and Tom did retire a few years ago. Sold the business and decided to take it easy. Well, as things would have it, they ended up buying the businesses back and “going back to work.” Must be something about the sweet life of pastries!
