Thirty Years and Counting

Please take a moment and think back to what was going on in your life in 1987. Were you in school? Were you
married? How old were your children?

Do you remember that in 1987:

• The cost of a U.S. Postage Stamp was $.24
• The Year End Close Dow Jones Industrial Average was 1938
• 1 lb of bacon was $1.80
• A new Toyota Camry cost $11,248
• Three Men and a Baby was the biggest movie of the year, while Fatal Attraction and Beverly Hills Cop II were the second and third
• Harry Hamlin was named People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive”
• Cheers, The Golden Girls, and Growing Pains were among the most watched television shows
• Ronald Reagan was the President
• Spuds MacKenzie debuted as the spokesdog/mascot for Bud Light
• Baby Jessica was rescued after being trapped in a well for two and half days

What is even more important to me is the risk an entrepreneur took in 1987. Russ Myers took a courageous and bold risk and started a monthly publication for the 50+ audience in the Quad Cities and surrounding areas.

We are grateful to Russ Myers for his desire and direction to create this great magazine. Russ loved journalism, and it was very obvious in his writing of his Publisher’s Corner article. He often shared his tales of fishing trips and adventures he loved to take.

During the past 30 years this publication has gone from newspaper print to the current full color magazine. Hundreds of advertisers have put their faith in this local publication. We are especially thankful to the advertisers – companies, entrepreneurs, writers, and many more that make this great publication possible each and every month!

Last but not least this magazine would be out of print if it were not for the readers. If you are a first time reader or have been reading this magazine for years, THANK YOU! Thank you for your loyalty over the past thirty years!
