A Pause for Poetry

By Gary Heath

On Down the Road

Deep in my heart,
I wish not to depart
From my home, go away
This ambivalent azure day.
My infirmities I must obey,
I must admit to say.
So hard to say farewell,
It’s what I have to tell,
The moving truck is here,
There’s nothing to fear,
That’s what I hear.
So, I’m moving on,
On down the road,
Bringing my life load,
On down the road.

I Am Future

I am future. I give time a kick ahead.
I kick the can of what will be, down
The highway cresting on tomorrow.
That can contains time going ahead,
Ahead of you, bumping down the
Road, as I am wont to do. The can I
Kick does not dither or procrastinate,
Though it may seem so, just that it’s
The way I unfold, in hiccups, bumps,
And bounces, seldom smooth. The can
Of time that I advance rattles down the
Road to be your history. I am future, at
Your service. If you listen close, you can
Hear me coming down the road. Look
For me soon on your road, I am future.
